Colic is a effect from air and temperature. Warm feedings are digested easily and with maximum absorption of nutrients. When feedings are cool or cold, the acid in the stomach, must increase to warm the feeding to be absorb into the gut.
Warming can decrease colic up to 75%.
Warming helps promote digestion and increase nutritional absorption. Baby will get maximum nutritional benefit with warming. If you see a baby in the NICU, you will notice all feeding are warm to tepid temperature. This is due to under developed GI track.
Tepid temperature bottles, mimic that of feeding in the womb. Warming increases nutrition by being absorb immediately. If a bottle is cool, the babies GI track has to increase acid to get the temperature to tepid so it can digest the feeding.
Tryptophan is also a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and the hormone melatonin. Formula, breast-milk and milk, naturally have Tryptophan. Tryptophan naturally increases with warming.
Serotonin and melatonin promote relaxation and sleep. So much so that when cancer patients are going through chemo, and their immune system is weaken, they are instructed to drink warm milk to promote sleep.
The last two things to develop on a baby is the lungs and the GI track. It is vitally important to make sure that baby can develop these properly. Warming bottles help promote serotonin and melatonin which helps promote connection and growth of neurotransmitters in the brain. Current studies on children who develop ADD or ADHD, show the lack of these vital nutrients, has a role in the lack of development of the neurotransmitters in the brain.
